FAQs

Fairweather fishing in Alaska with Angler Adventures NorthwestQUESTION: I have never been to Alaska and have heard that it's extremely cold and snowy. Is it possible to stay warm while fishing?

ANSWER: Yes! Although Alaska is a land of mountains and glaciers, the temperatures from May through September are mild and it is not snow season. The boat has a heated cabin, but it does rain occasionally so bring rain gear.

QUESTION: How do I get to Alaska (Gustavus, S.E. Alaska, or Juneau)?

ANSWER: Alaska Airlines is the major airline in S.E. Alaska and the only major one in Juneau, Alaska. Commuter planes will take you from Juneau to Gustavus all summer long or Alaska Airlines has a direct flight into Gustavus starting in June.

QUESTION: Do you have to be an expert fisherman to fish in Alaska?

ANSWER: No, in fact I take all sorts of people from families with kids to highly skilled fisherman.

QUESTION: Can I keep some of the fish to take home and eat?

ANSWER: Yes! Not only that, but your captain will make sure that some of your fish is vacuum packed and made ready for the trip home with you.

QUESTION: I'd like to catch a salmon, but I don't want to do a bunch of casting. Can I just sit in the boat and wait for the fish to strike?

ANSWER: Yes! Trolling only requires that you keep an eye on the pole tip so you can grab it and be ready to do battle with the fish when the strike hits!
